Metro Specific Learning Disability Project Goals

State-Initiated, Federally Funded Special Education Programs

Goals Overview

  • Provide the metro area (Region 11) with high quality, comprehensive, coordinated and on-going support to implement the guidance in the SLD Technical Manual for the identification and instruction of students with Specific Learning Disabilities.
  • Provide assistance integrating other improvement initiatives to achieve positive and measureable outcomes with students who have high incidence disabilities.
  • Provide on-going consultation on specific topics to school/district teams seeking to improve:
    • Accurate identification of students with Specific Learning Disabilities, including appropriately addressing all areas of criteria and using procedures for non-discriminatory assessment.
    • Understanding of when and how to exercise their choice of SLD criteria.
    • Achievement of students on IEPs (leading to increased number of students making progress toward proficiency);
    • Improved compliance for comprehensive evaluation and standards-based IEP writing.

This initiative is made possible in part with a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education using federal funding CFDA 84.027A Special Education—Grants to States.
